ARCHETYPE ID | openEHR-EHR-OBSERVATION.body_segment.v0 |
Concept | Measurement of Body Segment |
Description | Measurment of the length, circumference, area or height of an identified body part, using a standardised procedure. |
Use | Use to record measurements of parts or regions of the human body, including the head, limbs and torso. Use to provide insight into the shape and proportions of an individual's body, usually for purposes of clinical or anthropometric assessment. The names of the 'Length', 'Circumference', 'Area' and 'Height' measurements have been designed to utilise run-time name constraints which allows for selection of a named body segment to be specified either in a template or at run-time. This archetype contains a number of named measurements modelled as run-time name constraints, but this is not yet a complete list and it is anticipated that the number of measurements will increase over time as additional requirements are identified. The 'Unspecified Measure' and 'Unspecified Area' data elements have been included to allow for representation of any and all body segment measures, especially where the required measurement has not been included in the run-time name constraints for 'Length', 'Circumference', 'Area' and 'Height' measurements, above. In addition, these less specified data elements allow addiitonal flexibility by enabling naming to occur in templates and at run-time, or through binding to an external terminology, if this is preferred. |
Misuse | Not to be used to record ubiquitous clinical measurements which have their own specific archetypes: - the entire height or length of person - use OBSERVATION.height for this purpose. - the weight of the whole body - use OBSERVATION.body_weight for this purpose. - the circumference of a head - use OBSERVATION.head_circumference for this purpose. - the circumference of the waist - use OBSERVATION.waist_circumference for this purpose. - the circumference of the hips - use OBSERVATION.hip_circumference for this purpose. - the circumference of the chest - use OBSERVATION.chest_circumference for this purpose. Not to be used to record the weight of a or a part of the body. Not to be used to record the dimensions of an internal body organ or a lesion. Not to be used to record skinfold measurements - use archetypes specific for this purpose. |
Purpose | To record measurements of parts or regions of the human body, including the head, limbs and torso. |
